Hardly surprising
A student at BYU has run afoul of thinking that because it has the word university in its name, it's a place for exploring ideas, expanding consciousness and personal growth. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
This young BYU student created a fine art exhibit showcasing individuals who identify as gay along with someone who supports them. Note this is not a exhibit of gay people and their lovers. It is an exhibition of gay people and people who support them. Nevertheless, this was too much for the powers that be at BYU, aka the leaders of the LDS church, and his part of the exhibition was summarily removed. Read his own account of the experience.
This is just one more perfect example of the double-speak that typifies the LDS church on the subject of homosexuality. Out of one side of their mouth they say that they love and welcome gay people. Out of the other side, they squash any suggestion that gay people are...well...people.
This kind of false compassion is something I think only believers are capable of. Only someone who can blame God for their bigotry has no crisis of conscience. The only other kind of people who have no crisis of conscience make no pretense at compassion.
