What the hell.
Not usually a big fan of meme's, and I won't be tagging anyone, but this one seemed interesting.

Repealing DADT
I finally got around to watching Obama's comments to GLBT leaders at the White House. I must say I was impressed. His comments about repealing DADT in "a way that will take" seem especially relevant and wise given the recent murder of gay Navy sailor August Provost. He was shot multiple times and set on fire...but it wasn't a hate crime. So, what? The perpetrator merely had a psychotic episode? August's mother says she found out about the details of his murder on TV and not from the Navy. Something stinks here and it isn't brine.
Obama said over and over (paraphrasing) "You can't just change policy. You have to change hearts." If what is happening at Camp Pendelton is indicative of the cultural climate in the military, you can repeal DADT, but that isn't going to make it safe for GLBT service members to serve openly and safely.
Sarah Palin for President
Can you think of anything more frightening for this country? Recently on Meet The Press, McCain stated unequivocally that he believes Sarah Palin to be qualified for President. Her qualifications? "She has all the right instincts, all the right principles, she was a mayor, she was a governor, she has a great background."
She was mayor of a town of roughly 5,500. Yes, Wasilla is part of the Anchorage metropolitan area, for a total population of about 360,000. Does anyone else wonder if being Mayor of a small town extrapolates well to being President of the United States? She was elected governor in 2006, that means she was basically governor for one year, maybe 18 months. How effective a governor do you think she was while on the campaign trail? And now she has resigned. She didn't even complete a full term as governor. All I've heard is whining about media scrutiny, a.k.a. slander and defamation. I'm sorry, but she is a nobody from nowhere and suddenly she's candidate for Vice President. You think that isn't going to raise eyebrows? You set yourself up as a target then complain when people start taking shots at you. Does that sound like someone who can take the heat of being President?
When asked if he had any regrets about choosing Palin as his running mate, McCain responded, "...with all due respect to those who like to examine the entrails and look backward, the fact is we were three points ahead on September 15 and then the stock market crashed and we went seven points down..."
Ummmm...isn't examining entrails about looking forward? And how do you give respect to someone who you then immediately dismiss and a conjurer or a quack? He talks about the stock market crash like it was a force of nature beyond his control and not a reflection on eight years of Republican economic policy, which maybe, just maybe had an impact on voter confidence in his and her ability to govern well.
I don't get the Sarah Palin obsession. From where I sit it has to be one of two things: a delusional attempt to rescue an ego and save face, or they really do think she would be a great president because she is so clueless, Republican power brokers would have a perfect puppet in the White House. Oh, I'm sorry. Was that a personal attack?
And you’re surprised because…?
The White House on Obama's promise to lift the ban on needle exchange programs:
We have not removed the ban in our budget proposal because we want to work with Congress and the American public to build support for this change."
And from America Blog:
Let's see...
- The candidate promised to lift the ban.
- The White House Web site reaffirmed the president's commitment to lifting the ban.
- The White House Web site no longer reaffirms his commitment to lifting the ban.
- The president now refuses to lift the ban.
- The president actually affirmatively makes things worse by administratively supporting defending the ban.
- The spokesman reiterates the president's support for lifting the ban, some day, once Congress gets around to it.
Sound familiar?
I hate to say, "I told you so," but "I told you so."

Utter horseshit
When I first heard about the raid on the Rainbow Lounge I knew something was fishy. However, these comments from the Ft. Worth chief of police are unreal.
You're touched and advanced in certain ways by people inside the bar, that's offensive. I'm happy with the restraint used when they were contacted like that."
OK. For starters, you call putting a man in a hospital with a brain injury "restraint?" Are you kidding me?
I'm not buying this "he groped me" bullshit. No one in his right mind is going to grope a cop checking IDs at a bar. So, either the cops are lying through their teeth or the guy was so completely inebriated he wasn't in his right mind. Let's assume just for a moment the latter was the case. How does that give anyone—much less cops who should be held to a higher standard as professionals—the right to assault the perpetrator?
This kind of behavior is indefensible. Period. The fact that some folk are still peddling the supposition that the unwelcome advances of a gay man are somehow worse than the unwelcome advances of a straight man and thus justify any retaliatory response not only shows where we have come from, but also how far we still have to go.
